No More Boring Mindy

I kind of realized something recently... the people I'm posting are really really cute, and the photos are fun... but my blog posts are crazy boring. Like insanely boring. Like I'm really really sorry that I'm torturing any of you with my lame words...

I guess it's partly because my eyes glaze over and my brain freezes up when I see a blog post with a lot of words. I'm sure those words people write are amazing, but I rarely can read the whole thing... I skim at best.

I chalk it up to this: I've been trying for months to read a book. Any book... just a book all the way through. I used to read multiple books every WEEK, and now it takes me weeks to read ONE book. I don't even watch entire shows on tv anymore. My entertainment comes in snippets now... it's kind of a "magazine" time of my life.

I also realized, when I was trying to go to sleep last night, that my life pretty much revolves around photography. I really don't think of much else... like my big excitement this week? A new lens is coming today. :)

So, if I add those things up...  my aversion to long blog posts, my lack of life outside of photography, my attention span of a 3 year old (unless it's editing photos... I do that for hours on end)... it equals a very boring me.

So, if you've made it this far (lots of words, I know... but I tried to make it more exciting by throwing in a lot of pictures too :) I need some suggestions. First of all, tell me a book that I can't help but get engrossed in, so I can expand my world beyond my computer screen. Have you read anything lately that I must read?

Also, what kind of things would you like to read (if I promise to make it more exciting) on my photo posts? More details about the session? More details about my life? Algebra equations?

Whatever I do, I promise to make it pretty short and sweet. ;)

A big thanks to this adorable family (I LOVED them!) for helping my blog post be pretty. :)

  1. I am a magazine reader at best--I get so sucked in when I read a book. So I have no book ideas for you.
But I hope you know you're not boring, no matter what! :) P.S. WHAT LENS?!?! So excited for you!!

  2. I love to read also. A good book that I would recommend is a series called the Great And Terrible. The first one is called the Brothers. They are really good. Then any books by Anita Stansfield, or even Richard Paul Evans has books that are not so long that when your done doing pictures you can do a little bit of reading.

Good Luck with everything and thanks for taking our family pictures. My mom saw them and said she would like to use you whenever we can get the whole family together again!!

  3. The Walk is a really good book and the third one came out this week. :) Written by Richard Paul Evans, and like Ellen said, they are easy readers. Beautiful blog post btw. I personally would like to see more Mindy pictures.... One silly, posed, or natural picture with every post. ;)

I never think your blog posts are boring. I agree, posts with too many words I never read, I skim like you.

  4. Book: Candle in the Darkness by Lynn Austin.

Blog: I like session details- the weather, lighting, lenses, etc. But your photos are always so beautiful they are worth thousands of words all by themselves.

    1. I'm liking this idea, Charlotte! After all, I'm a photography educator also... and this kind of stuff is right up my alley. I'll think on that... thanks for the suggestion!

  6. That is a fun session. Is that Mallory's family? Just wondering how everyone fits in there.(Tayler-well I know she is engaged to the boy, maybe Mallory's bro. I could see that. and Jen-went to high school with her. Super cute and nice girl. Small world!) Books, can't think right now really. I have read a few so so ones lately have read some old stand bys as well. Just starting The Book Thief. Not far enough into it to know what I think yet. Good review though. I did just finish Black Heels to Tractor Wheels by Ree. I read the installments on the blog, but never the book. Cute. Makes me love my farm boy even more. Sure you could relate to the cowboy/farm boy thing. But then again maybe you read it. All right. Enough rambling.;)

  7. I agree with Charlotte- share share be fair...hahahaha! I love to hear session details and that kind of fun.

I'm a book junkie- but I don't like it deep or educational- I love fiction...and magic, and powers, and 'other realm' kinda stuff... I just read the "Immortal Instruments series..." love it. And I started another one- "A Great and Terrible Beauty" They are just fun books that kinda just take me away for a time. Being in front of a computer is daunting at times- I know what you mean!

I tried to get through "The Book Theif" but really didn't like it. It does have great reviews, but not my kind of thing I guess. I LOVED LOVED LOVED a book called "These Is My Words" have you read it?

Good Luck Friend! ( I had NO idea Hannah was your sister! We're in the same ward!)

    1. Stephanie! I loved These is My Words so much! And I also didn't like The Book Thief... so it sounds like we have similar tastes. You need to give me more suggestions!

      Hannah is Brandon's sister. She's a cutie. :)

  9. Oh Mindy, you can't bore me. I read every single word of that post. I've got a million books I have read on my Kindle, well maybe not a million, but I am usually always good for a book suggestion. Recent books I have read and loved: Kristin Hannah's Home Front (all of her books are good though, I suggest them all), Nora Roberts (yes I love most of her books) Chasing Fire, The Search, Kathleen Grissom's The Kitchen House. Currently reading Nora Robert's newest book The Witness, so far it is really good. My absolute favorite author of all time is Jodi Picult. My favorite of hers is probably Handle with Care, but I also love my Sisters Keeper, they are probably tied for 1st. I have all of Jodi Picult's books in actual book form if you ever wanted to borrow. Feel free to hit me up for book suggestions anytime. And if you got through reading all of that, then I am glad I didn't bore you either;)
